Wasp and Hornet Control
Professional wasp control & nest removal
in Stockton and the Northeast
Wasps and hornets can become a serious nuisance during the warmer months, especially when they build nests close to homes, gardens, lofts, roof spaces, and commercial premises. Their presence can make outdoor areas uncomfortable to use and may pose a real risk to anyone who is allergic to stings. As nests grow larger through the season, activity often increases rapidly, with workers becoming more defensive if disturbed. At Pest Ex, we provide professional wasp and hornet control services for domestic and commercial properties across the North East.
Wasps vs Hornets
How to tell the difference
Wasp
The common wasp is slender insect with a smooth body, narrow waist and bright yellow and black banding. They are highly active in the summer and are often seen flying in and out of small holes in the ground, walls or roof spaces where nests are built. Wasps are more aggressive than bees and more prone to sting. They are predatory insects but they are also attracted to sugar (e.g. honey, sugary drinks) especially during summer months.
Hornet
The European hornet is larger than a common wasp and has a more robust appearance, with a thicker body and broader head. It has a distinctive brown and yellow colouring rather than bright black and yellow stripes. Hornets tend to be less aggressive than wasps unless they are defending a nest but have a more powerful sting. Their nests are usually found in hollow trees, sheds, lofts, or wall cavities.

Signs of a Wasp/Hornet Problem
- Increased wasp or hornet activity around specific areas, such as rooflines, sheds, or garden structures.
- Frequent sightings of insects flying in and out of a single point, suggesting a nearby nest entrance.
- A noticeable buzzing or humming sound coming from walls, loft spaces, or voids.
- Visible paper-like nest in trees, roof spaces, lofts, or underground cavities.
- Aggressive appearance of wasps/hornets when you approach certain areas of the property.

Why Wasp/Hornet Control is Essential
- Wasps and hornets can become highly aggressive, especially in late summer when food sources decline.
- Stings can be painful and, for some people, trigger serious allergic reactions that may require medical attention.
- Nest locations in lofts, walls, sheds, and gardens can pose safety risks during everyday activities and property maintenance.
- Wasps and hornets can disrupt outdoor living spaces, making gardens, patios, and commercial areas unusable during peak season
